Crochet Summer Hat Pattern Materials

Along with the above you will need the following yarn for your hat:

Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, 100% cotton, 186yds/170m/100g

You will require approximately: 101 (119, 137, 155, 192, 215) metres, 110 (130, 150, 170, 210, 235) yards of yarn to crochet the hat. 1 (1, 1, 1, 2, 2) balls of the recommended yarn.

It’s a category 4, worsted weight yarn which is what gives your hat its durability. Find out more about yarn weights and categories.

Glossary and Abbreviations

Stitches

The pattern is written in standard US terms and uses the following crochet stitches:

sc – single crochet (how to single crochet stitch)

dc – double crochet (double crochet tutorial)

Special Stitches

Stacked Double Crochet

This is an alternative to a starting chain and gives a much neater and straighter edge to your work.

Insert hook into first stitch, yoh and pull through stitch. Yoh and pull through both loops (sc created). Insert hook into side of sc just made, yoh and pull through. Yoh and pull through both loops.

How to Customise my Crochet Sun Hat

  • If you would like to adjust the height of your hat you can continue to work single crochet rounds before the main stitch pattern for as long as you like.
  • If you would like to adjust the brim depth you can work more or less rounds as you like.

Pattern Gauge: 15 rounds = 6.5” diameter of Crown. 17 sts = 4″ in sc.

Making a crochet gauge swatch is important when crocheting projects to ensure that it ends up the desired size.

This is also a great way to get used to the stitches used in the project and practise getting your stitches nice and neat.
