Delicate and sophisticated, these coasters are the perfect home gift set to make from your yarn stash. With three different designs that sit beautifully together, you won’t be able to stop at just one of each! This may seem like one free crochet coaster pattern but you’re really getting three-in-one.
It’s so important to have coasters in the house and I’ve realized that more over time. Not only do they look pretty on your tabletops but they’re quite functional too.
Your hot drinks won’t singe the table and the cold ones won’t leave rings of liquid. You can use them for more than cups and glasses too (small bowls of snacks definitely count).
And while these are things you can do with them, putting them into gift form is even better. Crochet coasters like these work up very easily and quickly and you can put 4 to 6 together in a cute little packet to give to your loved ones. It’ll hardly take you an evening.
This free crochet coaster pattern will leave you with delicate lacy coasters that are perfect for any home.

More about this lacy crochet coaster pattern
I know that lace crochet patterns can be a bit daunting especially if they require itty bitty hooks and thin yarn. Doilies are such a work of art in this regard! We’ll be using a smaller hook for this pattern but you don’t have to worry about losing yourself in the pattern.
I’ve explained each coaster in great detail and the stitches used are quite basic. The coasters are made in 6 rounds (yes, that’s it!) so once you get the hang of them, you can mindlessly crochet them up.
Since there are variations, you can see which one is easier on your hands and stick to that pattern if you like. It’s up to you!
How do you crochet a lace coaster like this?
We’ll start with a magic ring and work in rounds (not continuously) to make these gorgeous crochet lace coasters. There are 6 rounds in each coaster and I recommend that once you’re done, you block them.
That way, they won’t be all wonky and blocking really helps give attention to the lace details. Your coasters won’t be all scrunched up and it’ll help even out your tension too.
All of the stitches you need to know as well as those you might be trying for the first time (don’t worry — I’ve included tutorials) are all given down below.
Yarn
To crochet these coasters, I used the soft Stylecraft Recreate DK (40% Wool, 30% Acrylic, 30% Polyester, 350m (383yds)/100g) in the color Rose. It’s a lovely yarn to work with if you’re making lacy patterns.
You will need approx. 10g per coaster. If you decide to make your coasters with a thicker yarn and/or bigger hook, the total amount will vary accordingly.
Alternatively, here are some wonderful yarns that would also work really well for these coasters:
- Cotlin by WeCrochet (70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen, 123yds/50g)
- DROPS Cotton Merino (50% fine merino, 50% Egyptian cotton; 110m/50g)
- King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK (50% Bamboo 50% Cotton, 252yds, 230m/100g)
Tension and Sizing
The first 2 rounds of each coaster are 5cm in diameter but tension isn’t essential for this project. After you’ve blocked your coasters, each of them measures 12.5cm.

Pattern Notes
Each round is worked in groups of no more than 10 stitches so don’t feel intimidated by it looking tricky, just work each repeat and pop a stitch marker in if it helps to keep track of where you are.
Make sure that you block your coasters when they are all complete – it really helps to show the detail in the stitches and you can make sure they all end up the same size too!
Unless otherwise stated a chain at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch.
This pattern is worked in the round, do not turn your work at the end of the round. Use a removable stitch marker to mark the end of the round.
