Crochet Storage Basket Pattern With Mushrooms

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my full disclosure and privacy policy for details.

This crochet storage basket pattern brings a woodland touch to my autumn makes, with little mushrooms worked around the middle using overlay mosaic crochet. That stunning toadstool design comes together so easily, and it makes for the sweetest basket to sit on a shelf or windowsill.

It’s brilliant for keeping all sorts of bits tidied away, from crochet notions to odds and ends that never seem to have a proper home. Made in three nesting sizes, you can whip up a little plant pot or a larger basket for sweets and toys, depending on what you need it for. Simple, practical, and just a little bit magical. 🍄🧡

FOUNDATION SINGLE CROCHET (Fsc)

  • Step 1: Ch 2, insert hook into second ch from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop. [2 loops on hook]
  • Step 2: Yarn over and pull up another loop i.e. ch1. This creates the first “chain” in your foundation row. [still 2 loops on hook]
  • Step 3: Yarn over and pull through both loops to complete the first Fsc.
  • Step 4: Next stitch and subsequent stitches: Insert hook into “chain” created in Step 2 (step 5 on subsequent stitches), yarn over and pull up a loop. [2 loops on hook]
  • Step 5: Yarn over and pull up another loop i.e. ch1. This creates the next “chain” in your foundation row. [still 2 loops on hook]
  • Step 6: Yarn over and pull through both loops to complete the next Fsc.

Pattern Gauge

Gauge: not essential, 4 rounds of base = 3.5″

A gauge swatch will help you find out if your yarn and hook size will give you the tension for the coaster and make it the size of the schematic.

You can find out more about making a crochet gauge swatch here.

  • The pattern is worked in rounds using the overlay mosaic crochet technique for the main body.
  • All stitches in the Mosaic Sections are worked as sc in blo or Mdc.
  • Each Round uses just one colour.
  • A ch1 at the beginning or end of a Round does not count as a stitch.
  • Read through the entire pattern before beginning.
  • Make sure that you are familiar with all of the stitches in the abbreviations list before you begin.
  • Stitch counts are given in [ ] at the end of each round. If no stitch count is given, then the count is the same as the previous round.
  • If following charts for the mosaic sections then you will need to follow the written pattern for the base and handles.
