The Wrap Around Crochet Baby Boots – Free Pattern

These cute little crochet baby boots are the perfect gift for any little one. They are quick and easy to make but look ever so impressive. Made with the softest of yarn they are warm and cosy yet practical too. Complete with wrap around cuff and button fastening so they stay put and keep those little feet toasty!

 

I love making blankets for new babies and toddlers but sometimes there just isn’t enough time to get them done before they arrive – I have a pile of half finished ones that are meant for babies that are now toddlers…! So this is a great alternative as a handmade gift that will only take an evening or two to make. Also, our little boy will definitely be getting a pair of these in his Christmas stocking this year too.

The Yarn

I used King Cole Baby Alpaca DK 100% pure baby alpaca 50g/100m (1;1;2;2 balls) which is just the most beautiful yarn to work with and makes the boots as light and soft as you could hope for.

Materials

Along with the yarn you will also need:

A 3.5mm/E crochet hook

Needle

Scissors

2 small wooden buttons (1-2cm long)

Tension

20st and 15 rows = 10cm by 10cm

Glossary/Abbreviations: Standard UK terms (Standard US terms)

ch(s) – chain(s)

sk – skip

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

rep – repeat

st(s) – stitches

ss – slip stitch

BL – back loop

FL – front loop

2tog – 2 together

dc – double crochet (sc – single crochet)

htr – half treble (hdc – half double crochet)

Notes

The boots are made in 2 sections that are then joined together – the boot and the cuff.

You will need 2 small 1-2cm buttons for the boots.

FOR THE SOLE: The ch2 at the beginning of a round counts as a stitch.

FOR THE UPPER AND CUFF: The ch1 or ch2 at the beginning of row/round does not count as a stitch.

The Pattern

SOLE: 

Foundation chain: ch9, 11, 13, 15

Round 1: 2htr in 3rd ch from hook, htr in 5,7,9,11, 6htr in last, rotate to work on other side of FC, htr in 5,7,9,11, 3htr in last, ss in ch2 to join [22,26,30,34]

Round 2: ch2, htr in same, 2htr, htr in 6,8,10,12, 2htr in each of the next 7, htr in 6,8,10,12, 2htr, ss in ch2 to join [32,36,40,44]

Round 3: ch2, htr in same, 2htr, htr in 9,11,13,15, 2htr in each of the next 11, htr in 9,11,13,15, 2htr, ss in ch2 to join [46,50,54,58]

Round 4: continue for sizes 3 and 4 only: ch2, htr in same, 2htr, htr in 18,20, 2htr in each of the next 15, htr in 18,20, 2htr, ss in ch2 to join [72,76]

Continue for upper.

UPPER:

Round 1: BL only this round – ch1, dc in each, ss in 1st to join [46,50,72,76]

Round 2: ch1, dc in each, ss in 1st to join

Round 3: ss in next 2st to get to centre of the sole, ch2, htr in each, ss in 1st to join

Round 4: ch2, htr in 11,13,24,26, (htr2tog) 12 times, htr in 11,13,24,26, ss in 1st to join [34,38,60,64]

Round 5: ch2,  htr in 9,11,22,24, (htr2tog) 8 times, htr in 9,11,22,24, ss in 1st to join [26,30,52,56]

FOR SIZES 3 and 4:

Round 6: ch2, htr in18,20, (htr2tog) 8 times, htr in 18,20, ss in 1st to join [44,48]

FOR ALL SIZES:

Sizes 1 and 2: Round 6: ch2,  htr in each, ss in 1st to join. Fasten off. [26,30]

Row 1: htr in 2nd and each [39,45,66,72] RS

Row 2: ch1, htr in FL of each to last 3, ch1, skip 1, htr in FL of last 2

SIZE 3 and 4: Row 4: Rep R2

Last 2 rows for each cuff:

Row 1: ch1, dc in FL of each

Row 2: ch1, dc in BL of each

Right:

As for left but Row 2: ch1, htr in FL of 2, ch1, skip 1, htr in FL of each to end

JOIN CUFF TO BOOT:

With RS facing, ss seam cuff to boot, starting 2 st to the side of centre, leaving 1 st at the end unworked.

BUTTONS:

Sew your buttons on in the right place to fasten.
