The gingham crochet stitch is a beautiful colorful stitch that is both classic and modern. Using two colors of yarn per row you carry the second color through your stitches making it much easier than it looks!

You can use any stitch you like to create a gingham crochet stitch (sometimes called a chequered stitch) but I love to use the herringbone half double crochet stitch. It has beautiful texture and the slight slant of the stitches gives the gingham great definition.

Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Pull first loop straight through the second loop (similar to a slip stitch to leave 2 loops on the hook). Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.
