The Serenity Shawl – Free c2c Crochet Shawl Pattern

Everyone needs a favourite crochet shawl pattern and I’m guessing that this could be it. This isn’t just any wrap though, it’s a fun c2c crochet shawl pattern that is so easy!

Made with the effortlessly gentle Scheepjes Alpaca Rhythm in lace weight and using a twist on the corner to corner method, you’ll have one knocked up in no time!

If you’re anything like me then you’ll have a huge collection of crochet shawls and wraps in the cupboard already but one more can’t hurt, right? This one is the perfect addition to for when it starts to get cool and you need to start layering.

The Shawl

This shawl is a take on the ever popular corner to corner (c2c) crochet technique and it’s so simple to make this soft lace-look with only a few stitches.

The most important part of c2c is to know what to do when you turn in order to make the new extra ‘square’, the rest is a doddle!

The Yarn

I chose to use Scheepjes Alpaca Rhythm for the shawl and it gives it the most glorious drape!

It’s a lace weight yarn and at 200m/25g it goes a long way, I only used 3 balls for the entire shawl.

Materials

Along with the yarn you will also need:

A 5mm/H crochet hook

Needle

Scissors

Finished Size

The finished shawl measures 82cm by 175cm at widest points

Tension

18 tr and 6 rows = 10cm by 10cm but is not essential for this project

Glossary/Abbreviations: Standard UK terms (Standard US terms)

ch(s) – chain(s)

sk – skip

RS – right side

WS – wrong side

rep – repeat

st(s) – stitches

ss – slip stitch

dc – double crochet (sc – single crochet)

tr – treble (dc – double crochet)

The Pattern

Using standard UK terms –

Foundation chain: using Robotic ch6

Row 1: (Right Side): tr in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip 1, tr in next ch; turn

Row 2: Ch 6, tr in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip 1, tr in next ch, (slip st, ch 3, tr, ch1, tr) all in ch-3 space of previous row; turn

Row 3: ch 6, tr in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip 1, tr in next ch, [(slip st, ch 3, tr,ch1,tr) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] twice; turn

Row 4: ch 6, tr in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip 1, tr in next ch, [(slip st, ch 3, tr,ch1,tr) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] three times; turn

Each row increases by 1 block by repeating [(slip st, ch 3, tr,ch1,tr) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] once more each row.

Rows 5- 58: continue to increase as described above

Border:

At the end of Row 58, rotate shawl to work along the two short sides,

Row 1: *ch3, skip side of tr, ss in next ch, ch3, skip ch, ss in next ch, rep from * along both sides; turn

Row 2: *ch5, skip ch, ss in next, ch3, ss in next,, rep from * along, ending back at the end of Row 58 where you started the border.

Weave in all ends to complete. Block your shawl and enjoy!

Row 4: ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip 1, dc in next ch, [(slip st, ch 3, dc,ch1,dc) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] three times; turn

Each row increases by 1 block by repeating [(slip st, ch 3, dc,ch1,dc) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] once more each row.

Rows 5- 58: continue to increase as described above

Border:

At the end of Row 58, rotate shawl to work along the two short sides,

Row 1: *ch3, skip side of dc, ss in next ch, ch3, skip ch, ss in next ch, rep from * along both sides; turn

Row 2: *ch5, skip ch, ss in next, ch3, ss in next, rep from * along, ending back at the end of Row 58 where you started the border.
