Crochet Clutch Bag Pattern Supplies
Yarn
To make this crochet clutch purse pattern, I used Dishie by WeCrochet, 100% cotton (190yds/174m/100g) worsted weight.
It’s a category 4, worsted weight yarn which is what makes this bag so sturdy. Check our handy yarn weight chart and guide to find out more about yarn weights and categories.
I used Conch for my crochet clutch pattern.
Yarn Quantities
You will require approximately 275 metres, 300 yards of yarn to crochet the purse.
This is 2 balls of the recommended yarn.
The yarn amounts are approximate. Any changes and customisations will adjust the amount of yarn required so make sure to order plenty.
Yarn Substitutes
You can use any yarn that you like bearing in mind that you need to make sure you meet the gauge. Some other great options are:
- Cottage Cotton Yarn, 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic, 207yds/189m/100g
- Twister Solid XL, 55% Cotton, 45% Acrylic, 218yds/200m/100g

Sizing
Your small crochet purse will measure 8.5 inches wide by 6 inches tall (21.5cm x 15cm).
Gauge
Gauge: 13 sts and 6 rows = 4”by 4”
How to Crochet a Gauge Swatch
Making a crochet gauge swatch is particularly important when crocheting projects (and even more so for garments) to ensure that it ends up the desired size. It will help you practice your stitches and make sure your drape is perfect too.
Adjust your hook size to get your swatch as close to the gauge measurements as you can.

sc – single crochet (UK dc – double crochet)
dc – double crochet (UK tr – treble crochet)
Special Stitches
Dc in skipped stitch
When working into a skipped stitch, the double crochet is worked around the 3 double crochet stitches that are before it.
Note for working across the first set of 3dc in the set pattern:
The first st of the round moves backwards every other round of the main set pattern as we work into the last st of the round in the first stitch repeat.
You don’t need to do anything differently, just make sure to keep track of the first stitch of the round.
