This lightweight crochet poncho pattern is a dream to wear and is so versatile as you can wear the neckline either way plus have the join at the back so it looks more like a cape too!

Here are the shades names I have used:
A: Biscotti, B: Flamingo, C: Porcelain, D: Aqua, E: Peach, F: Duck Egg (pictured), G: Harvest, H: Seafoam
Yarn Quantities
Sizes: XS/S/M (L/XL/2XL, 3XL/4XL/5XL)
To make the crochet poncho, you will need 1415 (1665, 1945) m, 1548 (1820, 2125) yards of yarn.
This is 9 (11, 12) balls of the recommended yarn.
Yarn Substitutions
You can use any yarn that you like bearing in mind that you need to make sure you meet the gauge. Some other great options are:
- Twill Fingering, 100% Fine Superwash Wool, 366yds/335m/100g
- Stroll Fingering, 75% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon, 231yds/211m/50g
- Winter Glow, 51% Wool, 49% Acrylic, 381yds/350m/100g

Rectangle Poncho Crochet Pattern Free Construction
- The poncho is made from the side across in turned rows.
- You can adjust the width of the poncho by working as many or as few rows as you like.
- You can adjust the length of the poncho by working any multiple of 6 for your first row.
- Once the desired length is reached, the poncho is folded in half and seamed at the top edge leaving a space to create the neck hole.
- You can use any yarn weight you like and simply make the rectangle to measurements.

Stitches
The pattern is written in standard US terms and uses the following crochet stitches:
ss – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet (UK htr – half treble crochet)
Special Stitches
3rd loop
Extra loop created on hdc or Exhdc from the yarn over. When working in rows this will be the first loop you come to when looking at the stitch.
Yo slst – Yarn over slip stitch
Yoh, insert your hook, yoh and pull through stitch and all loops on the hook.
hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 together
Yoh, insert your hook, yoh and pull through stitch, yoh, insert your hook into next stitch, yoh and pull through stitch, yoh and pull through all loops on the hook.

- A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.

- Make sure that you are familiar with all of the stitches in the abbreviations list before you begin.
- Stitch counts are given in [ ] at the end of each row. If no stitch count is given, then the count is the same as the previous row.
- The count number referring to each size is laid out as follows: XS/S/M (L/XL/2XL, 3XL/4XL/5XL)

Making Your Crochet Poncho Pattern Perfect For You
If you would like to adjust the width of your poncho you can work as many or as few repeats of the Main Set Pattern as you like.
If you would like to adjust the height of your poncho then add or subtract any multiple of 6 stitches from your Foundation Chain. When working the pattern keep your first and last 6 stitches as per the pattern and adjust the rest according to the number of stitches you choose to work.

Rows 2-21 become the Main Set Pattern.
Rows 22-201 (221, 241): Repeat the Main Set Pattern.
This is 10 (11, 12) more repeats. You can continue to add repeats if you wish to. Each repeat will add 5″ to your poncho.
Rows 202 (222, 242) – 213 (233, 253): Rep Rows 2-13. Break yarn at the end of final row.
TO MAKE UP
Fold piece in half lengthways. Place a stitch marker joining the 2 sides together where you would like the neck opening to be. Try on and adjust as you need to. I made my neck hole approx 12″.
With the WS facing, seam together from your stitch marker for 6″ along the edge of the poncho (or for as much as you would like joined for the shoulder.
