How to Crochet a Gauge Swatch
Making a crochet gauge swatch is particularly important when crocheting projects (and even more so for garments) to ensure that it ends up the desired size. It will help you practice your stitches and make sure your drape is perfect too.
Adjust your hook size to get your swatch as close to the gauge measurements as you can.

- Turn the work at the end of each row.
- A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Read through the entire pattern before beginning.
- Before you start, go through the pattern and highlight/mark the stitch and row counts that correspond to the size you are making (this will make your life much easier!).
- Make sure that you are familiar with all of the stitches in the abbreviations list before you begin.
- Stitch counts are given in [ ] at the end of each row. If no stitch count is given, then the count is the same as the previous row.
- Sizes are written separately with the short and long version options. The count number referring to each size is laid out as follows: Short (Long).

Making Your Crochet Gloves Pattern Perfect For You
Adjusting the size of your Mitts can be challenging so I recommend that you select one of the sizes to work from.
You can make small adjustments to the length by working more/less stitches for the top and bottom ribs but make sure to keep track of where to change this in the pattern.
You can make small adjustments to the circumference by working extra rows of yo slst as you need – always make sure to do this evenly at the front and back.

How about practising the stitch on a smaller project first? The Deidra Collection also includes this twisted crochet headband pattern that is perfect to try first!
In sizes newborn baby to large adult you can make one in no time and it makes a great gift.
