Pattern for: The Serenity lace crochet shawl pattern

Yarn used: Fingering weight yarn; Soft Alpaca(durable and amazingly soft)

Difficulty level: Easy – with a beginner friendly construction

Stitches used: The corner to corner (C2C) technique

Hannah’s Notes: Effortlessly simple and stylish, the Serenity Shawl is a lace crochet shawl pattern like no other. With a beginner friendly corner to corner construction and stitch, you can create it to any size you like by working as many rows as you desire to the perfect size and drape.

In this post you’ll find everything you need to know how to make this corner to corner crochet shawl (that’s triangular and super easy to wear), including materials, stitches, a detailed video tutorial and free written pattern for blog subscribers.

This shawl is a take on the ever popular corner to corner (c2c) crochet technique and it’s so simple to make this soft lace-look with only a few stitches.

The most important part of c2c is to know what to do when you turn in order to make the new extra ‘square’, the rest is a doddle!

Yarn

To make this easy crochet scarf, I used Soft Alpaca, which is 100% Alpaca (180yds/165m/50g)

I used Light Gray for my shawl but there are so many glorious colours to choose from!

It’s a category 1, fingering weight yarn which is what makes the scarf so delicate and light. Check our handy yarn weight chart and guide to find out more about yarn weights and categories.

You can use any yarn that you like bearing in mind that you need to make sure you meet the gauge. Some other great options are:

Sizing

The finished shawl measures 61cm by 137cm (24″ by 54″) when blocked but is adjustable to any size.

How much yarn do I need to crochet the lace crochet shawl?

The following yarn amounts are approximate. Any changes and customisations will adjust the amount of yarn required so make sure to order plenty.

You will require approximately 395 metres, 430 yards of yarn to crochet the scarf.

This is 3 balls of the recommended yarn.

Pattern Gauge

Gauge: 6 rows of lace dc c2c pattern = 4” square

Making a crochet gauge swatch is important when crocheting projects to ensure that it ends up the desired size. However gauge isn’t essential as long as you are happy with the drape of your fabric.

Foundation chain: ch6

Row 1: RS: dc in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip next ch, dc in next ch; turn. [1 c2c block]

Row 2: Ch6, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip next ch, dc in next ch, (slip st, ch3, dc, ch1, dc) all in ch-3 sp of previous row; turn. [2 c2c blocks]

Row 3: ch6, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip next ch, dc in next ch, *(slip st, ch3, dc, ch1, dc) all in next ch-3 sp of previous row; rep from * once more; turn. [3 c2c blocks]

Row 4: ch6, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch1, skip next ch, dc in next ch, *(slip st, ch3, dc, ch1, dc) all in next ch-3 sp of previous row; rep from * two more times; turn. [4 c2c blocks]

Each row increases by 1 block by repeating: (slip st, ch3, dc, ch1, dc) all in next ch-3 sp of the previous row, once more each row.

Rows 5-36: continue to increase as described above. [36 c2c blocks]

You can continue to increase the size of your shawl by continuing to work as many rows as you would like.

Once you are happy with the size, break your yarn.

Block the shawl to measurements using your preferred blocking technique.

Weave in ends to finish.
