The Basketweave Beanie Hat is a super quick crochet baby hat that makes a great gift and is perfect for yarn stash busting too. In sizes from newborn to adult you can whip one up in no time at all.

The pattern is free in this post or you can buy an Basketweave Beanie ad free, printable PDF of the pattern in my pattern stores.

The Hat

Using just half treble (half double crochet US) and double crochet (single crochet US) stitches, this is a great project for beginners to try. It’s worked from the top down in rounds and the pattern texture comes from working in alternating whole stitch and back loops of the half trebles to keep you on your toes!

The Yarn

A few years ago I fell in love with Drops Merino Extra Fine yarn and I use it for so many projects now! It has the perfect amount of squidge (not a real word but I’m sure you know what I mean!) and bounce to give a great fit and beautiful stitch definition.

It works amazingly for crochet blankets and garments too.

For the beanies you will need 1 ball of Drops Merino Extra Fine – 50g/105m , 100% wool superwash for the newborn and 2 balls for the larger sizes in a colour of your choice.
